How to Turn On Your iPhone Power On Instructions.

Tested on: iOS 18.3.2, iPhone 16 Pro Max (Titanium Black, 256GB, Global Model A3296 – MYWV3ZD/A)

How to Turn On Most iPhone Models

For iPhone 6 and later (including iPhone 16 series):

  1. Press and hold the Side button (on the right edge of your iPhone).
  2. Keep holding until you see the Apple logo appear (about 3-5 seconds).
  3. Release the button and wait for your iPhone to finish starting up.

Important: Don’t let go too soon, if the Apple logo doesn’t appear, you may need to hold it longer.

How to Turn On Older iPhones (With Home Button)

For iPhone 5s, SE (1st gen), and earlier models:

  1. Press and hold the Top button (on the upper right edge).
  2. Hold until the Apple logo shows up.
  3. Release and wait for the iPhone to boot.

What If Your iPhone Won’t Turn On?

If pressing the power button doesn’t work, try these steps:

  1. Charge your iPhone – Plug it in for at least 15 minutes before trying again.
  2. Force restart
  • iPhone 8 & later: Quickly press Volume Up, then Volume Down, then hold Side button until the Apple logo appears.
  • iPhone 7/7 Plus: Hold Volume Down + Side button until the logo shows.
  • iPhone 6s & earlier: Hold Home + Top button until the screen lights up.
  1. Check for a drained battery – If it was unused for months, leave it charging longer.

How to Turn On an iPhone Without the Power Button

If your power button is broken, try these workarounds:

  1. Plug it into a charger – Sometimes this wakes the iPhone automatically.
  2. Connect to a computer – Use a Lightning cable to see if it powers on.
  3. Use AssistiveTouch (if already enabled) –
  • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch.
  • Turn it on and use the on-screen menu to restart.

Still Not Turning On?

If nothing works, your battery might be completely dead, or there could be a hardware issue. Try a different charger, cable, or contact Apple Support.
