Add Widgets to Samsung Galaxy Home Screen

How to Add Widgets to the Home Screen on Samsung Galaxy.

Widgets are one of those features that make Android phones really useful. Instead of opening an app every time you want to check the weather, see your calendar, or play some music – the information is right there on your home screen.

Learn how to add widgets to your Samsung Galaxy phone. I’ll show you the steps, plus how to move them around, resize them, and remove them if you change your mind.

This works on most Samsung Galaxy phones. I am using an S23 Ultra here, but the steps are almost the same on S24, S25, and older models too. The phone in this example is running One UI 6.1 on Android 14. Android 15 (One UI 7) will change some small things, but adding widgets should work pretty much the same way.

Before You Add a Widget

You need some empty space on your home screen. If your screen is full of app icons, you have a couple of options:

· Move some icons into folders
· Remove icons you don’t use much
· Make space on another home screen page

To make a folder, just drag one icon on top of another. You can name the folder whatever you want.

The Steps to Add a Widget

Here is exactly how to add a widget to your home screen.

Step 1: Find an empty spot on your home screen. Long press (touch and hold) that empty area for about one second.

Step 2: A menu will pop up at the bottom of your screen. Tap on Widgets.

Step 3: You will see a list of all the apps on your phone. Tap any app to see what widgets it offers. Different apps offer different widgets. Some offer many options. Some offer none.

Step 4: Find a widget you like. Press and hold it with your finger.

Step 5: While still holding, drag the widget to the spot on your home screen where you want it. Then lift your finger.

That is it. The widget appears on your screen.

How to Resize a Widget

Some widgets can be resized. Others have a fixed size. If you see a border with dots or lines around the widget when you tap it, you can resize it.

Step 1: Tap and hold the widget until you feel a vibration or see options appear.

Step 2: Let go. You should see a border around the widget with small dots or handles on the edges.

Step 3: Drag those handles to make the widget bigger or smaller.

Here is a tip – making a widget larger sometimes reveals more information. For example, a small weather widget might just show the temperature. A larger one might show the forecast for the next few hours.

How to Move or Remove a Widget

To move a widget to another spot on your home screen, press and hold it, then drag it to the new location. Let go when you have it where you want it.

To remove a widget, press and hold it. Look for a Remove option that appears on the screen. Drag the widget to Remove and let go. The widget disappears.

Example – Adding a Clock Widget

Let me show you a real example. Say you want a clock on your home screen that also shows the date.

Step 1: Long press an empty spot on your home screen.

Step 2: Tap Widgets.

Step 3: Search for Clock or find the Clock app in the list.

Step 4: Look through the available clock styles. You will see options like digital clock, analog clock, and dual clock.

Step 5: Press and hold the style you want. Drag it to your home screen.

Some clock widgets will automatically switch between light and dark colors based on the time of day. Most let you change the style by pressing and holding the widget and looking for Settings.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

If you cannot find a widget for an app you have installed, that app might not offer any widgets. Not every app does.

If your home screen is full, you might not be able to add a new widget without making space first. Try removing an icon or two, or moving things to a different screen.

You can add multiple widgets. You can also add the same widget more than once in different sizes or showing different information.

What If You Do Not See the Widgets Option?

On some Samsung phones, the menu you get when you long press the home screen might look slightly different. If you do not see Widgets as an option, look for an option called Home Screen Settings or just try long pressing on an actual app icon instead of an empty space.

Learn how to customize your home screen exactly the way you like it. Widgets take a little trial and error, but once you get the hang of it, you can set up your phone to show you exactly what you need at a glance.
