Remove Weather Widget from Samsung Home Screen

How to Remove the Weather Widget from Your Samsung Home Screen.

Learn how to delete the weather widget from your Samsung phone’s home screen. I’ll show you the steps to remove this widget completely or replace it with a different one if you prefer.

I am showing you on a Samsung S23 Ultra running Android 15 with One UI 7.0. The steps work on most recent Samsung Galaxy models including the S series, Note series, and A series running One UI. These steps work on Samsung devices running One UI 3 through One UI 7.

Why Remove the Weather Widget

The weather widget comes pre-installed on many Samsung phones. Some people like having it. Others find it takes up too much space, shows inaccurate information, or simply want a cleaner home screen. Whatever your reason, removing it is quick and easy.

How to Remove the Weather Widget

There is really just one simple method to remove a weather widget from your Samsung home screen. Here it is:

  1. Go to your home screen and find the weather widget
  2. Press and hold your finger on the weather widget (long press)
  3. A menu will pop up with several options
  4. Tap on “Remove”
  5. The widget will disappear immediately

That is it. The widget is gone. Your home screen now has more space for apps or other widgets.

What If You Want to Customize Instead of Remove

Before you remove the widget, you might want to see if changing its settings makes it more useful for you. Here are some things you can customize:

  • Change the location (GPS or a specific city)
  • Switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit
  • Remove the background (make it transparent)
  • Change the color scheme (light or dark)
  • Resize the widget to make it smaller

If you customize the widget and still do not like it, you can always remove it later using the same steps.

How to Resize the Weather Widget

If the weather widget takes up too much space but you still want to keep it, try making it smaller. Here is how:

  1. Press and hold the weather widget
  2. Look for the resize handles (small dots or bars on the edges)
  3. Drag the handles inward to make the widget smaller
  4. Release when you are happy with the new size

A smaller widget shows less information but takes up less room on your home screen.

How to Remove Other Widgets

The same method works for removing any widget on your Samsung home screen. This includes:

  • Calendar widget
  • Clock widget
  • Music widget
  • Notes widget
  • Any third-party app widgets

Just press and hold any widget and tap “Remove.” The widget will be gone. The app itself stays on your phone.

What If the Weather Widget Will Not Remove

If you follow the steps and the weather widget does not go away, try these things:

  • Make sure you are long pressing (holding for a second or two, not just tapping)
  • Try long pressing on a different part of the widget
  • Restart your phone and try again
  • Check if the widget is part of a widget stack (you may need to remove it from the stack first)

If none of these work, your home screen layout may be locked. Check in Settings > Home Screen to see if there is a lock layout option turned on.

How to Remove a Widget from a Stack

If your weather widget is inside a widget stack (where you swipe up or down to switch between widgets), you need to remove it from the stack first. Here is how:

  1. Press and hold the widget stack
  2. Tap on “Edit stack” or a similar option
  3. You will see all the widgets in the stack
  4. Swipe left on the weather widget (or tap the minus sign)
  5. Tap “Remove”
  6. Tap “Save” or “Done”

The weather widget is now gone from the stack. The other widgets in the stack remain.

Can You Re-Add the Weather Widget Later

Yes. Removing the widget does not delete the Weather app. You can add the widget back at any time. Here is how:

  1. Long press an empty area of your home screen
  2. Tap on “Widgets”
  3. Search for “Weather”
  4. Press and hold the widget style you want
  5. Drag it to your home screen

See my other guide on adding weather widgets for more detailed steps.

What If You Want to Disable Weather Updates Completely

If you never use the Weather app and do not want it using any battery or data, you can disable it. Here is how:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap on “Apps”
  3. Find and tap on “Weather”
  4. Tap on “Disable” (or “Force stop” then “Disable”)
  5. Confirm if asked

This removes the app and its widgets from your phone. You can re-enable it later by going to Settings > Apps, finding Weather, and tapping “Enable.”

How to Reset Your Home Screen Layout

If you have removed many widgets and apps and want to start fresh, you can reset your home screen layout to the default. Here is how:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap on “Home Screen” (may be under Advanced features)
  3. Look for “Reset Home Screen Layout”
  4. Tap it and confirm

This will put everything back to how it was when you first got the phone. The weather widget will come back. Use this only if you really want to start over.

Final Thoughts

Learn how to remove the weather widget from your Samsung home screen by long pressing on the widget and tapping Remove. It takes about two seconds.

If you want to keep the widget but make it smaller, resize it using the handles. If you want to change how it looks, tap Settings instead of Remove and adjust the options.

You can add the widget back anytime. Or you can disable the Weather app completely if you never use it.

Thanks for watching. I hope this helps you clean up your home screen exactly how you want it.
