Learn how to change app permissions on Android or how to manage Android app permissions. Control app permissions on Android devices. Allow or remove app permissions on Android phones – including Samsung and other models.

If you’ve ever denied a permission by mistake and then an app stopped working right, or you want to stop an app from accessing your location or camera, this guide is for you. Managing app permissions helps protect your privacy and makes sure apps only access what you actually allow.

I’ll show you the steps using a Sony Xperia 1V running Android 14. But don’t worry – the process is very similar on most Android phones, including Google Pixel and Samsung devices.

How to Find App Permissions on Your Android Phone

There are two easy ways to get to the app permissions screen. Here’s the fastest method:

Step-by-step:

  1. Find the app icon on your home screen or in your app drawer
  2. Press and hold (long press) on the app icon
  3. A menu will pop up – tap “App info”
  4. Tap on “Permissions”

That’s it. You’ll now see a list of what the app is allowed to access and what it’s not allowed to access.

Alternative way to find permissions

If the long press method doesn’t work on your phone:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap “Apps” or “App management”
  3. Find and tap the app you want to change
  4. Tap “Permissions”

How to Remove App Permissions (Deny Access)

If you want to stop an app from accessing something – for example, removing location access from your camera app so it doesn’t store GPS data in your photos – here’s what you do:

  1. Long press the app icon and tap “App info”
  2. Tap “Permissions”
  3. Look for the permission you want to remove (like Camera, Location, Microphone, or Contacts)
  4. Tap on that permission
  5. Select “Don’t allow”

That’s all there is to it. The app will no longer be able to access that feature.

How to Add App Permissions (Allow Access)

If you denied a permission by mistake and now an app isn’t working properly, here’s how to fix it:

  1. Long press the app icon and tap “App info”
  2. Tap “Permissions”
  3. Look for the permission that is marked “Not allowed”
  4. Tap on that permission
  5. Choose one of these options:
    · Allow only while using the app – Best for privacy
    · Ask every time – The app will ask you each time it needs access
    · Allow (always) – Available on some permission types

After you do this, the app should work normally again.

Important Things to Know

If you don’t allow camera access: A camera app won’t work. That makes sense – it needs the camera to take pictures.

If you don’t allow location: Your camera can still take photos, but your pictures won’t have GPS location data saved in them. This is actually a good privacy move if you don’t want to share where you took each photo.

If an app asks for permission you’re unsure about: It’s always fine to choose “Don’t allow” or “Ask every time.” You can always change it back later.

Summary

· Long press any app icon > App info > Permissions
· Tap a permission to change it to Allow or Don’t allow
· Use “Allow only while using the app” for better privacy
· You can change permissions as many times as you want

That’s how you manage app permissions on Android. It takes just a few seconds and gives you much better control over your privacy. If you have any questions, check the comments section or ask your phone’s support team for help specific to your model.
