What RAM Does the HP DV6-3300 Need?

Before you buy anything, you need the right type of RAM. For this laptop model, you need DDR3 SODIMM memory.

Step-by-Step Upgrade Guide

Here are the steps to install the new RAM.

Step 1: Prepare Your Laptop

1. Shut down your laptop completely. Don’t just put it to sleep.
2. Unplug the power cable from the wall and from the laptop.
3. Remove the battery. Slide the latch on the bottom to release it.

Step 2: Open the RAM Compartment

1. Turn the laptop over so the bottom is facing up.
2. Look for a small, rectangular panel secured by one or two screws. It’s often labeled with a memory/ram icon.
3. Use your screwdriver to remove the screw(s) for this panel.
4. Lift the panel off to reveal the RAM slots.

Step 3: Remove the Old RAM (If Needed)

You might have one 2GB stick installed, or the slots might be empty.

1. To remove a stick, gently push apart the two metal clips on the sides of the RAM module. They will spring outward.
2. The RAM stick will pop up at a slight angle.
3. Now you can gently pull it straight out of the slot.

Step 4: Install the New RAM

1. Take your new RAM stick. Look at the gold contacts at the bottom and the notch in the middle. This notch will only line up one way.
2. Hold the stick at about a 30-degree angle.
3. Align the notch on the RAM stick with the notch in the slot and gently but firmly slide it into place.
4. Once the contacts are fully seated, press down on the top of the RAM stick until the two metal side clips click and lock into place on their own. You should hear a soft click.
5. Repeat this process for the second stick in the other slot.

Step 5: Close Up and Test

1. Place the access panel back on and screw it in.
2. Reinsert the laptop battery.
3. Plug in the power cable.
4. Power on your laptop.

How to Check if the Upgrade Worked

Your laptop should boot up normally. To confirm the new RAM is recognized:

1. On Windows, right-click on “My Computer” or “This PC” and select “Properties.”
