How to Pair Bluetooth TWS Earphones with iPhone.
Learn how to pair Bluetooth TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earphones with your iPhone. If you are setting up new wireless earbuds or reconnecting old ones, I’ll show you the steps to get them working quickly.
I am showing you on iOS 18.5 with an iPhone 16 Pro Max Titanium Black 256 GB version Global model A3296 – MYWV3ZD/A. The same steps work on any iPhone model running a recent version of iOS.
In this post, I show you how to connect TWS earphones to an iPhone, including popular models like AirPods, Galaxy Buds, JBL, Sony, or other Bluetooth earbuds. Learn how to put TWS earphones in pairing mode or why your iPhone will not find your earbuds. I explain the process clearly so you can fix common issues.
What Are TWS Earphones
TWS stands for True Wireless Stereo. These are earbuds that have no wires at all. Not even a wire connecting the left and right earbuds. Each earbud is completely separate. Examples include AirPods, Samsung Galaxy Buds, JBL TWS models, Sony WF series, and many others.
What You Need Before You Start
Before trying to pair your earphones, make sure of these things:
- Your TWS earphones have battery charge (put them in their charging case and make sure the case has power)
- Bluetooth is turned on your iPhone
- Your iPhone is within a few feet of the earphones during pairing
- You know how to put your specific earphones into pairing mode (check the manual if unsure)
How to Put TWS Earphones into Pairing Mode
Different brands have different methods, but here is the general process that works for most TWS earphones:
- Take the earphones out of their charging case
- Look for a button on each earbud or on the case itself
- Press and hold that button for a few seconds (usually 3 to 10 seconds)
- Watch for a blinking LED light – usually blue or white
- The blinking light means the earphones are now discoverable
For some models like JBL TWS earphones, you may need to do a long press on the button until you see the LED start blinking. For AirPods, you open the case near your iPhone. For other brands, check the manual if the standard method does not work.
How to Pair on Your iPhone
Once your earphones are in pairing mode, follow these steps on your iPhone:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Tap on Bluetooth
- Make sure the Bluetooth toggle is turned on (green)
- Look under “Other Devices” for the name of your earphones
- Wait a few seconds if you do not see it right away
- Tap the name of your earphones when it appears
- Wait for the status to change to “Connected”
That is it. Your earphones are now paired. From now on, they should connect automatically when you take them out of the case and have Bluetooth enabled on your iPhone.
A Quicker Way Using Control Center
You can also check and manage Bluetooth devices from the Control Center:
- Swipe down from the top right corner of your iPhone screen
- Look at the Bluetooth icon in the top left of the Control Center
- Tap and hold the connectivity box (where Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are)
- You will see your connected and available devices
This is a fast way to switch between earphones or check what is connected. But for first-time pairing, using the Settings app is more reliable.
What If Your iPhone Cannot Find Your Earphones
If your earphones are not showing up in the Bluetooth list, try these steps in order:
- Make sure the earphones are actually in pairing mode (blinking LED)
- Turn Bluetooth off and on again on your iPhone
- Move your earphones closer to your iPhone
- Close the Settings app and reopen it
- Restart your iPhone (hold power and volume, then slide to power off)
If none of these work, your earphones may need a reset. Most TWS earphones reset by putting them in the case, then pressing and holding the button for 10 to 15 seconds until the LED flashes in a different pattern.
How to Forget and Re-Pair Earphones
If your earphones are paired but not connecting properly, you may need to forget them and pair again. Here is how:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth
- Find your earphones under “My Devices”
- Tap the blue information icon (i) next to the device name
- Tap “Forget This Device”
- Tap “Forget Device” to confirm
- Now put your earphones back into pairing mode
- Follow the pairing steps again to reconnect
This solves most connection problems. It is like starting over with a clean slate.
How to Improve Bluetooth Connection Stability
If your earphones keep disconnecting or the sound cuts out, try these tips:
- Keep your iPhone close to your earphones (within 10 feet or 3 meters)
- Remove obstacles like walls or your body between the phone and earphones
- Turn off other Bluetooth devices that are not in use
- Update your iPhone to the latest iOS version
- Make sure your earphones have the latest firmware (check the manufacturer’s app)
Connecting Popular TWS Models to iPhone
Here are quick notes for specific brands:
AirPods
Open the case near your iPhone. A pop-up appears. Tap Connect. Follow the on-screen steps.
JBL TWS Models
Take earbuds out of case. Press and hold the button on each earbud or the case until LED blinks. Look for JBL in iPhone Bluetooth settings.
Sony WF Series (like XM5)
Take earbuds out of case. Press and hold the touch sensors on both earbuds until LED blinks. Look for Sony in Bluetooth settings. Note that Sony’s high-quality LDAC codec does not work on iPhone. Your iPhone will use AAC instead, which still sounds good.
Samsung Galaxy Buds
Open the case near your iPhone. Press and hold the touchpad on both earbuds or the case button. Look for Galaxy Buds in Bluetooth settings.
How to Disconnect or Remove Your Earphones
To temporarily disconnect without forgetting the pairing:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth
- Find your earphones under “My Devices”
- Tap the blue information icon (i)
- Tap “Disconnect”
To reconnect, just select them again from the Bluetooth list or put them back in pairing mode.
Charging and Storing Your TWS Earphones
Most TWS earphones charge when you put them back in their case. The case itself has a battery that recharges the earbuds multiple times. Here is the normal routine:
- After using your earphones, put them back in the case
- Close the case
- The earphones will turn off and start charging automatically
- Charge the case itself using USB-C or wireless charging when its battery runs low
This keeps your earphones ready for the next use. You do not need to turn them off manually.
Final Thoughts
Learn how to pair Bluetooth TWS earphones with your iPhone by putting the earbuds into pairing mode, then going to Settings > Bluetooth and tapping their name. The process takes less than a minute once you know where to look.
If your earphones are not showing up, make sure they are in pairing mode with a blinking LED. If they still do not appear, restart your iPhone or reset the earphones. Most problems are solved by forgetting the device and pairing again.
