How to Add Reminders to Your Android Calendar Using Google Assistant or Manually.
Learn how to add reminders to your Android calendar. If you want to quickly set a reminder with your voice or type in details manually, there are two easy ways to do it.
I’ll show you this on a Sony Xperia 1V running Android 15 using Google Calendar. The steps work on Samsung, Google Pixel, and most other Android phones.
Two ways to add calendar reminders
You can add reminders to your calendar in two ways:
- Using Google Assistant (or Gemini) with your voice
- Manually typing the event into the Calendar app
Both methods work great. Voice is faster for quick reminders. Manual typing gives you more control over details like multiple notifications or recurring events.
Method 1: Add a reminder using Google Assistant (or Gemini)
This is the fastest way. Just speak to your phone.
Step 1: Activate Google Assistant
Do one of these:
- Say “”Hey Google”” or “”OK Google””
- Long press the home button or power button
- Swipe from the bottom corner of your screen (depending on your settings)
Step 2: Speak your reminder
Say something like:
- “”Set a reminder for May 1st at 11:30 AM called test one””
- “”Remind me to call the dentist on Friday at 2 PM””
- “”Set a calendar event for tomorrow at 9 AM called team meeting””
Step 3: Confirm with Google Assistant
Google Assistant will repeat back what you said and ask you to confirm. It might say something like: “”Got it. I’ll remind you on May 1st at 11:30 AM.””
Step 4: Done
That’s it. The reminder is now in your calendar.
How to check if your voice reminder was added
Open your Calendar app. Navigate to the date and time you specified. You should see the event or reminder listed there.
If you don’t see it, try these:
- Refresh the calendar by swiping down
- Make sure you’re looking at the right calendar (Google Calendar, not a different one)
- Check that the time is correct (AM vs PM matters)
What you can say to Google Assistant
Here are example phrases that work:
For calendar events:
- “”Add a calendar event for tomorrow at 10 AM called doctor appointment””
- “”Schedule a meeting for May 15th at 2 PM””
- “”Create an event next Tuesday at 3 PM called project review””
For reminders:
- “”Remind me to buy milk at 6 PM””
- “”Set a reminder for Friday at 8 AM to check emails””
- “”Remind me on May 1st at 11:30 AM to call the office””
Method 2: Add a reminder manually using the Calendar app
If you prefer typing or want more control over details, do it manually.
Step 1: Open Google Calendar
Find the Calendar app on your phone and tap it.
Step 2: Navigate to the date
You can switch between views:
- Daily view – Shows one day at a time
- Weekly view – Shows 3 days or a full week
- Monthly view – Shows the whole month
Tap or scroll to the date you want to add the reminder to.
Step 3: Tap the plus icon or tap on the time
There are two ways to start:
Method A: Tap the plus icon (+) at the bottom of the screen, then tap “”Event””
Method B: Tap directly on the time slot in daily or weekly view (for example, tap on “”12:00 PM””)
Step 4: Enter the event title
Type a name for your reminder. For example: “”Call dentist”” or “”Send invoice””
Step 5: Set the date and time
- Make sure the date is correct
- Set the start time
- Set the end time (if it’s a longer event)
- Or toggle “”All day”” for things that don’t have a specific time
Step 6: Add notifications (reminders)
This is the “”extra reminders”” feature. Scroll down to “”Notifications”” or “”Add reminder.””
Tap to add a reminder time. You can choose from:
- At time of event
- 5 minutes before
- 10 minutes before
- 15 minutes before
- 30 minutes before
- 1 hour before
- 2 hours before
- 1 day before
- Or custom time
Step 7: Add multiple reminders
You can add more than one notification. For example:
- 1 day before (so you know it’s coming)
- 1 hour before (final warning)
To add another, tap “”Add notification”” or “”Add reminder”” again and pick another time.
Step 8: Tap Save
The save button is usually at the top (a disk icon or “”Save””) or at the bottom of the screen.
How to add an all-day reminder
Some things don’t need a specific time – like “”Submit expense report”” or “”Mom’s birthday.””
When creating an event manually:
- Find the “”All day”” toggle (usually a switch near the date and time)
- Turn it on
- Pick the date
- Save
All-day events show up at the top of the calendar for that day.
How to set a task instead of a calendar event
Google Calendar has two types of reminders:
- Events – Have a specific start and end time
- Tasks – To-do items that you can check off when complete
To add a task manually:
Step 1: Tap the plus icon (+)
Step 2: Tap “”Task”” (not “”Event””)
Step 3: Enter the task name
Step 4: Set a date and time (optional)
Step 5: Tap Save
Tasks show up in your calendar but can be marked as completed when done.
How to mark a reminder as complete
For tasks (not regular calendar events):
Step 1: Open the Calendar app
Step 2: Find the task you want to mark complete
Step 3: Tap on it to open the details
Step 4: Tap “”Mark as completed”” (looks like a checkmark or circle)
Step 5: The task will be crossed out or moved to a “”Completed”” section
You can’t “”complete”” a regular calendar event – you either keep it or delete it.
How to edit or delete a reminder
Step 1: Tap on the event or task in your calendar
Step 2: Tap the pencil icon (??) to edit
Step 3: Make your changes:
- Change the title
- Change date or time
- Add or remove notifications
Step 4: Tap Save
To delete:
- Event – Look for “”Delete”” in the menu (sometimes a trash can icon)
- Task – Tap “”Delete”” or “”Mark as completed”” then delete
Can you add reminders to specific calendars?
If you have multiple calendars (like Work, Personal, Family):
When adding an event manually:
- Look for a section called “”Calendar”” or a colored dot
- Tap it to choose which calendar to save to
- Pick Work, Personal, or another calendar
Different calendars can have different notification sounds and settings.
What’s the difference between an event and a task?
| Feature | Event | Task |
|---|---|---|
| Has start and end time | Yes | No (optional) |
| Blocks time on calendar | Yes | No |
| Can mark as completed | No | Yes |
| Multiple notifications | Yes | Limited |
| Shows as busy to others | Yes | No |
Use events for things that take time (meetings, appointments). Use tasks for things to do (buy milk, call someone).
