How to Make App Icons Larger on Samsung Android Devices.
Learn how to customize your Samsung home screen and change icon size so everything is easier to see and tap.
If the app icons on your Samsung phone feel too small or too close together, you can make them larger. This also changes how many icons fit on your home screen. You get to choose if you want more icons or bigger ones.
This guide uses a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra running Android 14 with OneUI 6.1. The steps are very similar on most other Samsung Galaxy phones.
Change the Home Screen Grid Size
The main way to make icons larger on a Samsung phone is by changing the grid size. The grid is how many rows and columns of icons fit on your screen. A smaller grid means bigger icons. A larger grid means more icons but smaller ones.
Here is how to do it:
· Long press on an empty area of your home screen (not on an app icon)
· Tap on Settings at the bottom right of the screen
· Look for Home screen grid
· Tap on it and pick a smaller grid size
What the grid numbers mean:
· 5×6 means 5 columns and 6 rows of icons (more icons, smaller size)
· 4×5 means 4 columns and 5 rows of icons (fewer icons, larger size)
· 4×4 means 4 columns and 4 rows of icons (even fewer icons, even larger size)
When you pick a smaller grid number, your icons will get noticeably bigger. The text under each icon also gets larger.
Change the Apps Screen Grid Too
Your Samsung phone has two different screens that show apps. The home screen is where you place your favorite apps. The apps screen (sometimes called the app drawer) is where all your apps live when you swipe up.
You can adjust both screens separately if you want.
Here is how to change the apps screen grid:
· Long press on an empty area of your home screen
· Tap on Settings
· Look for Apps screen grid
· Tap on it and pick the same grid size you chose for your home screen
It usually looks best when both screens use the same grid size. This way icons do not change size when you swipe between screens.
What About Folder Icons?
When you put apps inside a folder, those folder icons also get larger when you change the grid size. They adjust automatically. You do not need to do anything extra.
A Note About Limits
The grid size option only goes so small. Once you pick the smallest grid number available (like 4×4), you cannot make the icons any larger using this method. The grid size has a maximum limit based on your phone model and software version.
If you need icons even bigger than that, you may want to look into the display size settings or accessibility options. Those are covered in other guides.
Which Grid Size Should You Pick?
It depends on what you prefer.
Pick a smaller grid (like 4×4 or 4×5) if:
· You want big, easy-to-tap icons
· You have trouble seeing smaller icons
· You do not need many apps on your home screen
Pick a larger grid (like 5×6) if:
· You want to fit more apps on one screen
· You do not mind smaller icons
· You like having everything visible without swiping
The good news is you can change it as many times as you want. Try a few different sizes and see which one feels right to you.
