How to enable and use Google Pay in any country with Monese

Google Pay is a really cool way to make card payments using your phone with NFC.

NFC stands for Near Field Communication and it enables two devices to communicate over a short distance.

Kind of like when you bring your mobile phone closer to a POS machine to make a payment.

The problem is that GPay or Google Pay is not available in all countries.

Even in the EU there are countries that are included ad countries where you cannot get Gpay setup on your phone.

    Until today.

Monese added functionality in their app to add your monese card to GPay.

If you have a EURO Monese account and you add it to Google Pay, you get GPay on your phone, instantly, no matter what country you are in.

I believe this is because the Monese card IBAN is a Belgian one (used to be GB but we don’t talk about that here).

    It’s that simple.

After you add your Monese card to Gpay, go to NFC settings, make sure NFC is enabled and choose secure element to be Google Pay.

Next time you buy some stuff, try to pay with your phone and be surprised how seamless and easy it is to use.

Still can’t get the Google Pay app because the country is no supported yet but you can see the transaction history in the Play Store ad in Monese too.

Don’t have Monese yet? It’s not just FREE, they give you money to open an account!

Check this link to get the card and bonuses for opening your account.

Curve and Revolut are a nice extra if you don’t have those already, they all give different bonuses.

  • Why Monese and Revolut offer signup bonuses

Why Monese and Revolut offer signup bonuses

You might be wondering why offer 10-15 Euro for a new use.

What Monese or Revolut or any NeoBank / Fintech startup want the most?

They want and desperately need users in order to keep up with their tough competition.

    • Users = market share.
    • Market share = investment and trust.
    • Trust = accelerated growth.

Monese or Revolut have the  option to pay for advertising too and they do that and should definitely do that.

As a matter of fact you might see an ad from them anywhere you browse.

Word of mouth is much more efficient than an ad.

When a friend tells you about Revolut or Monese, you tend to believe it more.

When Monese pays for ads, that’s not a guaranteed successful signup but

when monese pays you for the signup, that’s for a guaranteed new user.

In summary, all these Neo banks (sounds like The Matrix 2020) or fintech startups are in a race to get their cards in your wallet and the wallet cards space is limited.

This is why they are so eager to convince you to use their services.

Paying 15 EUR for a new user is not that much when normally they would have to run a lot of ads to get that.

And their competition is doing it, successfully, already taking a piece of the prepaid travel card action from them. And more are coming just as eager to give you their free cards and signup bonuses.

About the wallet space, Curve has come-up with a fix, the card acts as a wallet itself similar to Apple pay and Google Pay.

The more apps and competition the better for us users.

No more rule of the my way or highway banks. You still need those but now we have ways to keep them from taking more and more fees when travelling or exchanging or even when receiving money (TransferWise).

Write what you think about Revolut, Curve or Monese. Which one you use and why?

    Update June 2022

Curve Card reduces it’s limits for the free tier. Maximum 2 cards added and 3 go back in time / month.
These offers get worse as time goes by so please check updated offers if you decide to use any of these cards.

Almost all cards have reduced limits on forex transactions then more fees apply.

So far Revolut is still the best option tied with Curve and Google Pay but this might change soon.

    Curve Card

No offer available at the moment.

    Monese

No offer available at the moment.

    Revolut

    – The selling point for me was the good exchange rates.
    – You save money when you need to buy something in another currency or when traveling.
    – You can have multiple balances in your account and with one card you can pay in multiple currencies.

Presently we have only free card offer but you should look around on the internet and uou might find people who can offer links that give you €10 bonuses.

They keep changing the offers and experimenting with who gets the new offers.

When we can give you a good offer, this page will be updated.

    Curve

    – All your bank cards in one.
    – Add existing cards.
    – Good exchange rates like Revolut but with something extra.
    – Able to go to a transaction made in the last 2weeks!
    – Can change the card that was used. In 1 min after the purchase, aka. Go back in time.

    Monese

Pretty much very similar to Revolut.

Exchange rates look like are very similar to Revolut and it’s nice to keep it as a backup for Revolut.

Out of all 3 so far Revolut is my favorite because it’s really easy.

    Transferwise

Also have Transferwise but they have small fees to load the Transferwise Border-less Account card.

With this link you get a free card and a free transfer: https://rex.red/transferwise-freecard

    Conclusion

Revolut is #1, try to change my mind if you think otherwise in the comments bellow.

Curve is one card for all your plastic. With good exchange.

Transferwise could drop the card loading fees. The fees are really small but people don’t want to pay fees.
