How to Block a Phone Number on iPhone iOS 26 Guide.

Learn how to block a contact’s phone number on your iPhone running iOS 26. I show you the steps to prevent unwanted calls, messages, and FaceTime from specific numbers.

This guide works for iOS 26 Beta 5 on iPhone 16 Pro Max. But the same steps apply to any iPhone model running iOS 26.

Three Ways to Block a Number on iPhone

You can block a number from different places on your iPhone. Here are the most common methods.

Method 1: Block from Your Recent Calls List

This is the fastest way if someone just called you.

Here are the steps:

  • Open the Phone app on your iPhone
  • Tap Recents at the bottom of the screen
  • Find the phone number you want to block
  • Tap the info icon (the letter “i” in a circle) next to that number
  • Scroll down and tap Block this Caller
  • Tap Block Contact to confirm

Method 2: Block from Your Contacts List

If the person is already saved in your contacts, use this method.

Here is what you do:

  • Open the Phone app or Contacts app
  • Find and tap the contact you want to block
  • Tap the info icon (the letter “i” in a circle)
  • Scroll down and tap Block this Caller
  • Tap Block Contact to confirm

Method 3: Block from a Message Conversation

If someone is bothering you through iMessage or SMS, you can block them directly from the conversation.

Follow these steps:

  • Open the Messages app
  • Open the conversation with the person you want to block
  • Tap the contact’s name or number at the top of the conversation
  • Tap the info icon (the letter “i” in a circle)
  • Scroll down and tap Block this Caller
  • Tap Block Contact to confirm

What Happens When You Block a Number on iOS 26

Learn how blocking works on your iPhone. When you block a phone number, here is what changes:

  • Phone calls from that number do not ring on your iPhone
  • The caller hears one quick ring (just a fraction of a second) and then a busy signal or goes to voicemail
  • Text messages and iMessages from that number do not show up in your inbox
  • FaceTime calls from that number do not come through
  • You will not get any notifications from that number

Important note: Blocked callers can still leave voicemails. You just won’t receive any notification about them. The voicemail will go to a special “Blocked Messages” folder.

How to Unblock a Number on iPhone

If you change your mind, unblocking is just as easy.

Here is how to unblock a number:

  • Open the Settings app
  • Tap Phone
  • Tap Blocked Contacts
  • You will see your list of blocked numbers
  • Find the contact you want to unblock
  • Swipe left on the number and tap Unblock
  • Or tap Edit in the top right corner, then tap the red minus button next to the number

How to Manage Your Blocked Numbers List

You can see and manage all your blocked numbers in one place.

Here is where to find your blocked list:

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap Phone
  • Tap Blocked Contacts

From here you can see every number you have blocked. You can also add new numbers directly by tapping Add New and choosing from your contacts.

How to Stop Spam Calls with Silence Unknown Callers

Learn how to automatically handle calls from numbers not in your contacts. iOS 26 has a feature called Silence Unknown Callers.

Here is how to turn it on:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Phone
  • Scroll down and tap Silence Unknown Callers
  • Toggle the switch to on (green)

When this feature is on, here is what happens:

  • Calls from numbers not in your contacts, recent outgoing calls, or Siri suggestions go straight to voicemail
  • These calls do not ring your phone
  • You will see them in your recent calls list under Missed
  • Calls from people in your contacts still ring normally

What the Blocked Caller Experiences

If you block someone, they will not know for sure that you blocked them. Here is what happens on their end when they try to call you:

  • Their phone rings once (just a very short ring)
  • Then they hear a busy signal or get sent to voicemail
  • They do not get a message saying they were blocked
  • Their texts appear as delivered on their end, but you never receive them

This design helps protect your privacy. The caller cannot confirm that you blocked them.
