Turn Off Color Palettes on Samsung Galaxy Android

How to Turn Off Color Palettes for Home Screen and App Icons on Samsung Galaxy Android phones.

Learn how to turn off color palettes on your Samsung Galaxy phone. If your app icons keep changing colors to match your wallpaper, this feature is easy to disable.

I’ll show you the steps to restore your original app icon colors and stop automatic color changes. I’m using a Samsung S23 Ultra with Android 15 and One UI 7.0, but these steps work on most recent Samsung Galaxy phones.

What Are Color Palettes on Samsung Phones?

Color palettes are a One UI feature that automatically picks colors from your wallpaper and applies them to your app icons, settings menus, and quick panel. Some people like the matching look. Others find it distracting or prefer to keep their app icons looking original.

The good news is you can turn this off completely.

Step-by-Step: Turn Off Color Palettes

Follow these steps to disable color palettes on your Samsung Galaxy phone:

  1. Go to your home screen
  2. Long press on an empty area (not on an app icon or widget)
  3. Tap Wallpaper and style
  4. Look for the Color palette section
  5. Tap the toggle switch to turn it off

That’s it. Your app icons should immediately go back to their original default colors. The settings menu and quick panel will also return to Samsung’s standard look.

What If You Only See Palette Options Without an Off Switch?

On some One UI versions, you may not see a simple on/off toggle. Here’s what to do instead:

  1. Follow the same steps to get to Wallpaper and style
  2. Scroll through the color palette options
  3. Look for a palette that shows the original app colors (often labeled “Default” or shown with no color tint)
  4. Select that option

This gives you the same result – your icons go back to normal without any wallpaper-based color matching.

How to Get to Wallpaper and Style Another Way

If long pressing on the home screen doesn’t work for you, try this alternative path:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Wallpaper and style
  3. Turn off the Color palette toggle

Both methods take you to the same place.

What Changes When You Turn Off Color Palettes

Disabling color palettes will:

  • Restore app icons to their original colors (blue for Play Store, red for YouTube, etc.)
  • Remove color tinting from settings menus
  • Stop quick panel toggles from changing colors with new wallpapers
  • Prevent automatic color updates when you switch wallpapers

What it won’t do:

  • Remove any themes you installed from the Galaxy Theme Store
  • Change your wallpaper
  • Affect third-party launchers (those have their own settings)

A Note About One UI Versions

This method works on Samsung Galaxy phones running One UI 4 or later. That includes:

  • Galaxy S22, S23, S24, and newer
  • Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series
  • Galaxy A series (most recent models)

If you have an older Samsung phone with an earlier version of One UI, the color palette feature may not exist at all, or the setting may be in a different location.

What If You Want More Control Over Icon Colors?

Learn how to customize further if turning off color palettes isn’t enough for you.

Galaxy Theme Store – You can download complete icon packs and themes that change how everything looks. Some themes keep icon colors consistent regardless of your wallpaper.

Third-party launchers – Apps like Nova Launcher or Lawnchair give you much more control over icon shapes, sizes, and colors. You can even use custom icon packs from the Play Store.

Built-in icon shape settings – In Wallpaper and style, you can change icon shapes (circle, square, rounded) without affecting colors.

Final Tips

  • Long press an empty spot on your home screen to find the Wallpaper and style menu quickly
  • The color palette toggle is usually right at the top of that screen
  • If you can’t find an off switch, pick the default palette option instead
  • Changing your wallpaper won’t reset your preference – once turned off, it stays off

Let me know in the comments if you’re having trouble disabling color palettes on your specific Samsung model. Include your One UI version (Settings > About phone > Software information) and I’ll try to help.
