How to Clear Browsing History in iPhone Safari Browser.

Learn how to clear your browsing history in the iPhone Safari browser. If you want to delete your search history, cookies, or website data, I show you the steps to do it quickly.

I am showing you on iOS 26 Beta 4 on an iPhone 16 Pro Max. These steps work on all iPhones running recent versions of iOS.

In this guide, you will learn how to remove your browsing history from Safari on iPhone. You might want to clear your history for privacy reasons or to free up storage space. The process is simple and only takes a few taps.

How to Clear Safari History and Website Data

Here is the main way to clear your browsing history, cookies, and website data all at once.

The steps:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down until you see Apps
  • Tap on Apps
  • Scroll or use the alphabetical index to find Safari
  • Tap on Safari
  • Scroll down until you see Clear History and Website Data
  • Tap on Clear History and Website Data
  • Confirm by tapping Clear History and Data

That is it. Safari will now remove your entire browsing history, all cookies, and other stored website data.

What Gets Deleted When You Clear History and Data

When you tap Clear History and Website Data, here is what gets removed from your iPhone:

  • Your entire browsing history in Safari
  • All cookies stored by websites you visited
  • Other website data like cached files
  • The list of open tabs may also be cleared depending on your settings

After you clear this data, you will need to log in again to most websites. Your saved usernames and passwords might still be there if you saved them in iCloud Keychain, but the cookies that kept you logged in will be gone.

Important Privacy Note

Clearing your Safari history on your iPhone removes the record from your device. But your browsing history could still be recorded elsewhere.

Here are places where your browsing activity might still exist:

  • On your internet provider’s servers
  • On the DNS server you use
  • On your home router or network switch
  • On the websites themselves (they keep server logs)

If you are trying to keep something truly private, the safest choice is not to visit that content from your phone at all. Clearing history on your device only removes the local copy.

How to Clear Only Specific Websites from History

If you do not want to clear your entire history, you can remove individual websites instead.

Here is how to remove single sites:

  • Open the Safari browser on your iPhone
  • Tap the bookmarks icon (it looks like an open book)
  • Tap the History tab at the top (clock icon)
  • Find the website you want to remove
  • Swipe left on that website
  • Tap Delete

You can repeat this for any other websites you want to remove. This leaves the rest of your browsing history intact.

How to Automatically Clear Safari History

Learn how to set up automatic history clearing if you want Safari to handle this for you on a schedule. Safari does not have a built-in auto-clear feature that runs on a timer. But you can use Private Browsing mode instead.

Here is how to use Private Browsing:

  • Open Safari on your iPhone
  • Tap the tabs icon (two overlapping squares)
  • Tap the word Tab or the number of tabs at the bottom center
  • Tap Private
  • Tap Done

In Private Browsing mode, Safari does not save your history, cookies, or other browsing data. When you close your private tabs, everything is gone.

How to Clear Cookies Without Deleting History

If you want to keep your browsing history but remove just your cookies, there is a way to do that too.

Follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Safari
  • Scroll down and tap Advanced
  • Tap Website Data
  • Tap Remove All Website Data at the bottom
  • Confirm your choice

This removes all cookies and site data but leaves your browsing history intact. You can also swipe left on individual websites to remove their data one by one.

Quick Summary

Here are the main ways to clear browsing data in Safari on iPhone:

To clear everything (history, cookies, and data):

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Safari
  2. Tap Clear History and Website Data
  3. Confirm

To clear only specific websites:

  1. Open Safari and tap the bookmarks icon
  2. Tap the History tab
  3. Swipe left on any site and tap Delete

To clear only cookies and site data:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced
  2. Tap Website Data
  3. Tap Remove All Website Data

Final Tip

Clearing your browsing history can help with privacy and can also free up a small amount of storage space on your iPhone. But if storage is your main concern, clearing your history will not free up much space. You are better off offloading unused apps or deleting large files like photos and videos. For privacy, using Private Browsing mode is a good habit if you do not want Safari to save your activity in the first place.
