Gaffer Tape vs Duct Tape
Gaffer tape is useful as a better replacement for Duct tape.
Gaffer tape doesn’t reflect light the way duct tape.
Gaffer tape can be stronger than duct tape.
Also most important, gaffer tape does not leave glue residue after a long time and it can be used with higher temperature applications.
The gaffer tape value comes from not reflecting light and the natural rubber adhesive glue that doesn’t leave marks the way duct tape does after a long time of use.
In Video Production and Theaters
Gaffer tape is used mostly in video production and theaters for the strength and to avoid unwanted light reflections from the tape.
Gaffer tape is also used to mask brand names or recognizable branding during photography or video production to avoid having to get clearance for every item used.
Gaffer tape is a great tape for microphone placement on various surfaces and for attaching microphones to clothes for video and theater performances.
The Problem with Gaffer Tape
The problem with Gaffer tape vs Duct tape is the price.
I have 3M Duct tape, HPX Tougher Tape Cloth Tape and the HPX Gaffer Tape.
The Best Tape
The best I believe is the HPX Tougher Tape 6200 Cloth tape.
It’s strong and not very expensive.
The Cheapest Tape
The cheapest is the duct tape and the Gaffer tape is the most expensive tape but I wouldn’t use gaffer tape to fix leaky pipes.
