We used a Sony Xperia 1V running Android 14 for this guide. The steps might look slightly different on your phone, but the process is generally the same.

How to Change the Alarm Sound for a New Alarm

Let’s start by setting a new alarm with a custom sound.

  1. Open the Clock app on your phone. It’s the app you use to set alarms and timers.
  2. Tap on the Alarm tab at the bottom.
  3. Tap the + (plus) sign to create a new alarm.
  4. Set your desired time and other settings.
  5. Now, tap on Alarm sound or Ringtone.
  6. A list of sounds will appear. You can tap any of the default ringtones to hear a preview and select it.

How to Use Your Own Music as an Alarm Sound

If you want to use a song you own, the process is just as easy.

  1. Follow steps 1-5 above to get to the “Alarm sound” menu.
  2. Instead of picking a default sound, look for an option that says Add or a + icon. On some phones, you might just tap My music or Local music.
  3. This will open your phone’s file manager or music library.
  4. Navigate to the folder where your music is stored and tap on the song you want to use.
  5. The song will now be set as your alarm tone. Make sure to save your new alarm!

Learn How to Change the Sound for an Existing Alarm

Already have an alarm set? Changing its sound is simple.

  1. Open the Clock app and go to the Alarm tab.
  2. Find the alarm you want to change and tap on it.
  3. This opens the alarm’s settings. Tap on Alarm sound or Ringtone.
  4. Choose a new sound from the list or add your own music using the steps above.
  5. Remember to tap OK or Save to confirm your changes.

Can I Use Spotify or YouTube Music as an Alarm?

This is a common question. Unfortunately, you cannot directly set a song from Spotify or YouTube Music as your alarm sound through the standard Clock app. These services stream music, and the alarm function needs a local audio file stored on your device.

However, there is a workaround:

  • If you have a Spotify Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription, you can often download songs for offline listening. Once downloaded, the audio file might appear in your local music library when you go to add an alarm sound, allowing you to select it.

For a more integrated experience, you might want to check out third-party alarm clock apps in the Google Play Store that are specifically designed to work with these music streaming services.
