I’m using a Sony Xperia 1V running Android 14. While your menus might look slightly different depending on your phone’s brand and Android version, the process is very similar on most modern Android devices.
Steps to Access Lock Screen Settings
First, you need to find where the customization options are hidden.
- Press and hold on a blank spot on your home screen. This will open a customization menu.
- In the menu that pops up, look for and tap on Wallpaper & style. On some phones, this might be called Lock screen settings or just Settings.
- Inside this menu, you should see an option labeled Customize lock screen or something very similar. Tap on it.
Now you’re in the right place! Let’s look at what you can change.
Changing Your Lock Screen Clock
This is one of the easiest ways to give your lock screen a fresh new look.
- Once in the lock screen customization menu, tap on the clock that is displayed on the preview.
- You will be shown a variety of different clock styles to choose from. Scroll through and tap on the one you like best.
- For many clocks, you can also tap a color option or a settings icon to change its color and size.
How to Add or Remove Widgets
Widgets on the lock screen can show you handy info at a glance, like your step count or the next event on your calendar.
- In the lock screen customization menu, look for an option called Widgets or Add widgets.
- Tap on it, and you’ll see a list of available widgets you can add.
- Simply tap the ones you want to add. You can usually drag to reorder them.
- To remove a widget, tap the Remove or minus (-) icon next to it.
Changing Your Wallpaper and Color Theme
Learn how to tie everything together with a new background and color scheme.
- Going back to the Wallpaper & style menu is your hub for this.
- Tap on Change wallpaper to pick a new image from your gallery or from your phone’s pre-loaded options. You can set it for both your lock screen and home screen, or just one.
- Next, tap on Color theme. Android will usually generate a palette of colors based on your current wallpaper. You can tap on different options to see which one you prefer; this color will be applied to your buttons, the clock, and other system elements.
Once you’re happy with all your changes, just back out of the menu. Your new, personalized lock screen is all set
