What Is Caller Name Announcement

If you hear the name of the contact when your iPhone is ringing, this is a setting on your iPhone. Siri says the name that you have saved in your contacts.

For example, if you saved a contact as “Dragos cable net test,” Siri will say that name out loud when that person calls. If you don’t want Siri to say the name of the contact calling you, it is easy to turn this setting off.

This feature requires Siri. So if you have Siri enabled, that is why you hear the announcement.

How to Find the Announce Calls Setting

1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
2. Tap on Apps.
3. Find and tap on Phone. You can also just search for “phone” in the settings search bar.
4. In the phone settings, look for the Siri settings. You will see Apple Intelligence and Siri settings here.
5. Tap on Announce Calls.

What the Announce Calls Options Mean

When you tap on Announce Calls, you will see a few options:

• Always – Siri announces calls every time.
• Never – Siri never announces calls.
• Headphones only – Siri announces calls only when you have headphones connected.
• Headphones and car – Siri announces calls only when you have headphones or are connected to your car.

If you don’t want Siri to ever announce calls, set it to Never. But it might be useful to set it to Headphones only, because your iPhone might be in your pocket. You might be able to answer the phone call, especially if you know who is calling.

How to Turn Off Caller Name Announcement Completely

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap on Apps.
3. Tap on Phone.
4. Tap on Announce Calls.
5. Select Never.

That’s it. The feature is now turned off.

How to Test That It Worked

1. Lock your iPhone.
2. Call yourself from another phone.
3. Your iPhone will ring but there will be no voice announcing the call.

You will still see the contact name on the screen and you will still see the missed call notification. But you will not hear Siri announcing it.

Why You Might Want to Turn This Off

This is also a privacy matter. It might be a privacy problem if you have announcement calls in your car or always when your phone is ringing sitting on a desk. Other people around you can hear who is calling.

If you prefer to see calls silently on your screen, turning off this feature is the way to go.
