How to Update Your Asus Prime X570-P Motherboard BIOS
Updating your motherboard’s BIOS can seem difficult but with Asus’s EZ Flash utility it’s actually easy as in EZ haha! I will let myself out.
This video guide will show you the process of updating the BIOS on your Asus Prime X570-P motherboard.
Safety Notes
A failed BIOS update can brick your motherboard:
- Connect your PC to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) if possible
- Close all running programs
- Don’t update during storms or unstable power conditions
- Save and backup all important data
- Don’t interrupt the update process once it starts
Required Items
- USB flash drive (8GB or larger, formatted to FAT32)
- Stable internet connection
- Your current BIOS version number
- About 1 hour.
Step 1: Check Your Current BIOS Version
- Boot the PC and press the Delete key during the post / startup.
- See the BIOS screen and note the version number of your current bios.
- Go thru the Bios settings and if you customized anything, take notes as the bios settings are reset during the update. Like this you know exactly what Bios settings to check and change after the update.
Step 2: Download the Latest BIOS
- Visit the official Asus support website
- Enter “Prime X570-P” in the search box
- Select your exact model
- Go to the “Drivers & Tools” section
- Look for “BIOS & FIRMWARE”
- Download the latest BIOS version
- Extract the downloaded file to your USB drive
Step 3: Prepare Your USB Drive
- Insert a USB drive into your computer
- Format it to FAT32
- Copy the extracted BIOS file to the USB drive
- Safely eject the USB drive
- Plug it into a USB port directly on the motherboard (not a front panel)
- Use the Bios renamer tool provided in the bios update to shorten the bios file name correctly.
Step 4: Enter BIOS and Start Update
- Restart your computer
- Press Delete repeatedly during startup to enter BIOS
- Go to the “Tool” menu
- Select “Asus EZ Flash 3 Utility”
- Choose your USB drive
- Select the BIOS file you downloaded
- Confirm you want to proceed with the update
Step 5: Update Process
- Don’t touch anything while the update is in progress
- The system will verify the file
- Update process will begin automatically
- Wait for completion (usually 5-10 minutes)
- System will restart automatically
Step 6: Verify the Update
- Let the system boot normally
- Enter BIOS again (press Delete)
- Check the BIOS version number
- If correct, load optimized defaults
- Save and exit
Troubleshooting Tips
If something goes wrong, try:
- Double-check you downloaded the correct BIOS file
- Try a different USB port
- Format the USB drive again
- Make sure the USB is formatted as FAT32, not NTFS
- Verify the BIOS file isn’t corrupted
What Not to Do
- Don’t update BIOS unless you need to
- Don’t interrupt the power supply
- Don’t press any buttons during the update
- Don’t use a USB hub
- Don’t run other programs during the update
When to Update Your BIOS
Only update your BIOS if:
- You’re experiencing specific issues
- Need support for new hardware
- There’s a critical security update
- The new BIOS version specifically addresses a problem you’re having
Conclusions
BIOS updates can add features and fix problems, but they also carry some risk. If your system is working fine, you might want to skip optional BIOS updates. If you decide to update, following these steps carefully will help ensure a successful update.
Remember to check your specific motherboard model number carefully – using the wrong BIOS file can cause serious problems. When in doubt, consult the Asus support website or contact their technical support.
Common BIOS Update Issues
- Black screen after update: Clear CMOS and try again
- Update won’t start: Try different USB ports
- File not found: Check USB format and file location
- System crashes: Load BIOS defaults after update
- Boot problems: Ensure proper boot order is set
Remember: If you’re not comfortable performing a BIOS update yourself, consider seeking help from a professional.
