Why Add a Contact Shortcut?
Adding a contact to your home screen is a great time-saver. If you call or message the same people often, this shortcut lets you reach them with just one tap. You don’t need to open your phone app and search through your contacts list every time. It makes communication much more efficient.
Steps to Add a Contact Shortcut
This process is straightforward and works on most Android phones, including Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy models. We’ll use the standard Phone or Contacts app.
Open Your Contacts
Start by opening your Phone app or your Contacts app. This is where your full list of contacts is stored.
Find and Select the Contact
Scroll or search to find the specific person you want to add to your home screen. Tap on their name to open their full contact details view.
Open the Menu and Create the Shortcut
- On the contact’s details screen, look for the menu button. This is usually three vertical dots in the top or bottom corner.
- Tap the menu button and look for the option that says “Add to home screen” or something very similar. Select it.
Place the Shortcut
A new icon for your contact will appear on your home screen. You can now tap, hold, and drag it to move it wherever you like among your other apps and widgets.
How to Use and Customize the Contact Widget
Once the shortcut is on your home screen, it’s very simple to use.
Making Calls and Messages
- To Call: Just tap the contact icon once. It should immediately open your dialer with their number ready to call.
- To Message: Tap and hold the icon. A small menu should pop up giving you the option to “Message” them, which will open your default texting app.
Adjusting the Widget Size
Depending on your phone, you might be able to resize the contact widget.
- To Resize: Tap and hold the widget on your home screen until you see a border around it. If resizing is available, small handles will appear on the corners. Drag these handles to make the widget bigger or smaller.
- If you make it very small, it might just show the person’s profile picture as a simple, tappable dot.
How to Remove the Contact Shortcut
If you ever want to remove the shortcut from your home screen, it’s easy.
- Tap and hold the contact widget.
- Options will appear. Look for “Remove” (you might see a trash can icon or an “X” at the top of the screen).
- Drag the widget to the Remove option and let go. The shortcut will be deleted from your home screen, but don’t worry—the actual contact in your phone will remain perfectly safe.
By following these steps, you can customize your Android home screen for faster, more efficient communication. It’s a simple trick that makes staying in touch with important people even easier.
