Increase Contrast on Samsung Android

Samsung Galaxy Android Phone

How to Increase Contrast on Samsung Android Phones.

Learn how to make your screen easier to read by increasing contrast, making text bolder, and adjusting visibility settings on your Samsung phone.

If you have trouble seeing text or telling colors apart on your Samsung device, adjusting the contrast settings can help. Samsung includes several options to improve screen readability, from high contrast fonts to keyboard changes and even color inversion.

This guide uses a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra running Android 14 with OneUI 6.1. The steps are very similar on most other Samsung Galaxy phones.

Where to Find Contrast Settings

All the contrast and visibility options live inside the Accessibility menu.

Here is how to get there:

· Open the Settings app
· Scroll down and tap Accessibility
· Tap Vision enhancements

This is where you will find all the settings mentioned below.

High Contrast Fonts

This setting changes the font style to make text stand out more against the background. Letters become bolder and easier to distinguish.

How to enable high contrast fonts:

· Go to Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements
· Tap the toggle next to High contrast fonts to turn it on

You will see the change happen immediately in the settings menu. The text looks different right away.

High Contrast Keyboard

If you have trouble seeing the keys on your Samsung keyboard, this setting makes the keyboard much easier to see. It uses very bold, high contrast colors for the keys.

How to enable high contrast keyboard:

· Go to Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements
· Tap the toggle next to High contrast keyboard to turn it on

The keyboard will now appear with much stronger contrast. For some people this is very helpful. For others it might feel like too much. You can turn it off the same way if you do not like it.

Highlight Buttons

This setting adds an outline around buttons and makes them more visible on the screen.

How to enable highlight buttons:

· Go to Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements
· Tap the toggle next to Highlight buttons to turn it on

When enabled, you will see strong outlines around buttons and interactive elements on your screen.

Color Inversion

Color inversion swaps the colors on your screen. White becomes black, black becomes white, and other colors change to their opposites. This can make some screens easier to read, especially if you prefer light text on a dark background.

How to enable color inversion:

· Go to Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements
· Tap the toggle next to Color inversion to turn it on

If you already use Dark mode, color inversion may change things in unexpected ways. Try it and see if it helps. If not, just turn it back off.

Display Mode – High Contrast Theme

Samsung also offers a High Contrast display mode. This changes the overall look of your phone to use very strong contrast throughout the interface.

How to enable high contrast display mode:

· Go to Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements
· Tap Display mode
· Select High contrast

This will change the entire phone interface. It may also override your Dark mode or Light mode setting automatically.

Other Helpful Visibility Settings

While you are in Vision enhancements, here are a few other settings that can help:

· Enlarge text – Makes all text on your phone larger without changing other elements
· Extra dim – Makes the screen darker than the minimum brightness setting
· Remove animations – Turns off moving effects, which can make the phone feel faster and reduce motion
· Reduce transparency and blur – Makes backgrounds less fuzzy and easier to read

How to Turn Everything Back to Normal

If you try these settings and decide you do not like them, turning everything off is easy.

Here is how to reset:

· Go to Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements
· Turn off any toggles you enabled (High contrast fonts, High contrast keyboard, etc.)
· Tap Display mode and select Default
· If you turned on Color inversion, tap that toggle to turn it off

Your phone will go back to its normal appearance. You can also keep Dark mode on or off by going to Settings > Display and toggling Dark mode there.
