How to use 2 liter self watering plants
Steps to make 2 liter self watering plants:
- Take the bottle cap with the holes already made.
- Fill up a 2 liter bottle with water. Place the cap on tight.
- Turn the bottle upside down.
- Insert bottle into the soil next to the plant in a pot or in the garden soil.
- Secure the bottle with a stick and tie it with a rope to the stick.
- Keep in place until the water is depleted.
- Refill when needed again.
Water comes out thru the water bottle cap holes due to capilary action.
Capilary action is a property of soil that will absorb liquid from wet area (bottle) to dry area(soil) until the moisture is regained.
Enjoy your plants and deliver water directly to the roots while minimising evaporation in the summer hot days.
By placing the bottles deeper and increasing the time between waterings, you encourage the plants to grow deeper roots.
You can also make holes in the top of the bottles to make refilling easier but the water will come out much faster this way and might be a bit too fast.

You want to make holes only in the bottle cap to release the water slowly.
Too many holes will release water too fast and the bottle will drain faster.
