I had to replace the left side mirror and the mirror control knob.
This is a manually controlled left side mirror in the Volkswagen Polo 9N 2003 model.

The new side mirror is the left mirror for the VW Polo 9N but from Germany on a car that is made to drive on the right side of the road but here the cars are made to drive on the left side of the road.
LHD vs RHD.

I had to do some adjustments to the mirror glass to cover the view correctly from the driving seat on the right side of the car.

Not sure if there are differences but there should be and I’m almost sure it’s different.

After replacing the side mirror I realized I was supposed to put the knob back on the mirror manual control arm before re-installing the plastic trim with foam cover.

Don’t do the Same Mistake I did

Found a way to install the side mirror control knob with having to remove the door panel again but it’s not great.

If you did see that part in the video, thanks for watching carefully and not complaining and if you did see it, comment and say I saw that or something interesting you think everyone should know about cars or this car.

The Part number of the existing mirror and the new mirror might not match but they did work eventually. You can see all the info in the video.

I had a VW Polo 9N3 side mirror fixed with duct tape as a temporary fix until I could find a replacement side mirror.

I purchased the mirror glass made for the VW Polo 9N3 that’s the next generation of VW Polo 2006-2009 and it did fit inside the mirror case.
Using a lot of duct tape to fix the mirror glass and position the mirror to be usable while driving.

Making It Work

Despite the different part numbers, I got everything working. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. The mirror glass positioning needs adjustment for RHD cars
  2. The mirror glass from a VW Polo 9N3 (2006-2009 model) fits the 9N mirror case
  3. The control mechanisms are compatible between models

Installation Tips

When doing the full replacement:

  1. Remove the door panel carefully
  2. Check all mounting points are intact
  3. Test the manual control mechanism before final assembly
  4. Double-check the mirror’s viewing angle for your driving position
  5. Make sure all clips and fasteners are secure

Important Notes

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Part numbers might not match exactly but can still work
  • RHD and LHD mirrors may need adjustment for proper viewing angles
  • Keep all small parts organized during disassembly
  • Test the mirror adjustment before fully reassembling the door panel

Conclusion

While replacing a VW Polo wing mirror is not too complicated, paying attention to the details makes a big difference. Take your time with it and don’t rush putting the door panel back on before testing everything thoroughly.

If you’re stuck with a broken mirror temporarily, a careful duct tape fix can work as a short-term solution while you wait for proper parts. Just make sure you can see clearly and the mirror is secure enough for safe driving.
