How to Move the Address Bar Back to Top in Android Chrome.

Learn how to move the address bar back to the top in Android Chrome. If you previously moved it to the bottom and want to return it to its original position, I show you the steps to change it.

I am showing you on a Sony Xperia 1 V running Android 15. This method works on the latest versions of Chrome for Android.

In this guide, you will learn how to move the Chrome address bar back to the top on your Android phone. Some people prefer the classic layout with the search bar at the top for better visibility or just because they are used to it. The steps are quick and easy, taking only a few taps.

Two Ways to Move the Address Bar

There are two quick ways to move the address bar from the bottom to the top. You can choose whichever method feels easier.

Method 1: Long Press on the Address Bar

This is the fastest way to switch positions.

Here is what you do:

  • Open the Chrome browser on your Android phone
  • Look at the address bar – if it is at the bottom, press and hold on it
  • A small menu will pop up
  • Tap Move to top
  • The address bar will jump to the top of the screen

If you ever want to move it back to the bottom, just long press on the address bar again and tap Move to bottom.

Method 2: Using Chrome Settings

If you prefer using the settings menu, this method works just as well.

Follow these steps:

  • Open Chrome on your Android phone
  • Tap the three dots menu in the top right or bottom right corner
  • Tap Settings from the menu
  • Scroll down until you see Address bar
  • Tap on Address bar
  • Select Top from the two options (Top or Bottom)
  • You will see a small animation showing how the position changes
  • Press the back button to exit settings

Your address bar is now at the top of the screen.

Chrome Address Bar Top vs Bottom

Both positions have their benefits. Here is a quick comparison:

PositionGood For
TopClassic layout, works like desktop browsers, stays out of the way while typing
BottomEasier to reach with your thumb on big phones, feels more natural for one-handed use

Neither position is better or worse. It really comes down to what feels comfortable for you.

Quick Summary

Here are the steps to move your Chrome address bar back to the top:

Using long press:

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Press and hold on the address bar at the bottom
  3. Tap Move to top

Using settings:

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Tap the three dots menu
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Address bar
  5. Select Top

Final Tip

Try both positions for a few days to see which one you like more. If you have a large phone with a tall screen, you might prefer the address bar at the bottom so you do not have to reach up every time. If you are used to desktop browsers or want the address bar out of the way while typing, the top position might work better for you. The good news is that switching takes less than five seconds, so you can change it anytime you want.
